Week 5 NFL Survivor Pool Picks (2026): Dallas Tonight, or Save It for Later
October 8, 2026
Week 4 was the first week this season that the two most popular picks both survived. In Circa Survivor, Minnesota and Baltimore, the two most-picked teams, both won, and only 320 entries fell, by far the smallest cut of the season. Baltimore’s win came with a cost we will get to below. Buffalo, a 7-point home favorite, was the notable miss, losing 29–27 to New England. The Week 4 recap covers Thursday’s opener in Cleveland.
This week is thinner. Kansas City and Carolina are on bye, only one team on the slate sits near 80 percent, and that team plays tonight.
All numbers below are as of Thursday morning, October 8. Lines have moved this week and several depend on injury news still to come.
The quick verdict
- Top pick: Dallas at home against Tampa Bay (Thursday night). The Cowboys opened at -10 and have drifted to about -8, roughly -470 on the moneyline. SurvivorGrid’s vig-free number is about 79 percent, the highest on the board. Tampa Bay is winless and starting Jalon Daniels with Baker Mayfield out.
- Alternative: Houston at Tennessee, about -6.5 to -7.5 and roughly 76 percent. Both teams are 0-4, but the market prices them very differently.
- Save your studs: Jacksonville against Philadelphia in London, about 76 percent after a big line move, and owned by only a few percent of the field. The right play in large pools.
- Avoid: Baltimore and Atlanta, Cincinnati until its receivers clear, and every game priced inside a field goal.
The Week 5 slate
Fifteen games. Kansas City and Carolina are on bye.

Why Dallas
The case is simple on price. Dallas is the only team near 80 percent, and the next tier sits a few points below it. Tampa Bay will be without Mayfield and three defensive players, including safety Antoine Winfield Jr. Daniels was serviceable in his first start, a home loss to Green Bay, but the Buccaneers have not yet won a game.
The line has come down two points since Monday, which is worth noting honestly. Dallas’s defense has given up a lot of yards this season, and the market has trimmed the number. Even after that move, nothing else on the slate is priced higher.
Most entries still alive can use the Cowboys, too. The field spent San Francisco and Kansas City heavily in Weeks 2 and 3, and Minnesota or Baltimore last week. Dallas was not among the most popular picks on the consensus boards we tracked in any of the first four weeks.
When to save Dallas
There is a real argument against it. Several look-ahead boards show Dallas with a better spot in Week 8 at home against Arizona. Look-ahead lines move, but the principle from our expected value guide applies: a strong team is worth the most in the week it is laying the most, and this may not be that week.
Then there is ownership. About 45 percent of SurvivorGrid’s consensus board was on Dallas as of Thursday morning. If the Cowboys lose, nearly half of a typical pool goes with them. If they win, you have gained nothing on anyone who took them.
That is why pool size decides it. In a pool of a few dozen, take the safest number and move on. In a pool of hundreds or thousands, Jacksonville at a similar price and a fraction of the ownership is the better bet on finishing first. If you run several entries, splitting them across Dallas, Houston and Jacksonville is a reasonable hedge, as our multiple entries guide explains.
Houston and Jacksonville
Houston is 0-4, but C.J. Stroud threw for 347 yards in last week’s 34–30 loss to Dallas. Tennessee is also winless and has struggled to move the ball. Houston was about 13 percent of consensus entries as of Thursday, a middle ground between the crowd and the contrarian play.
Jacksonville’s number moved the most of any team this week, from about -4.5 on Monday to -7.5 by Wednesday. The reason is Philadelphia’s injury list: Saquon Barkley (hamstring) is considered unlikely to play, DeVonta Smith did not practice Wednesday, A.J. Brown is on injured reserve, and backup running back Tank Bigsby is headed there too. The game is in London and kicks off at 9:30 a.m. ET, so in game-by-game pools it locks early.
The rest of the board
Cincinnati at Miami prices close to Houston and Jacksonville, but Ja’Marr Chase remained in the concussion protocol and missed Wednesday’s practice, and Tee Higgins is dealing with an adductor injury. About a quarter of the field was on the Bengals as of Thursday, which is a lot of exposure to a receiver room that may be short-handed.
Detroit at Arizona, around 69 percent, is the best of the next tier, but it is a road game with one of the highest totals of the week.
Trap watch
Applying the framework from our look at trap games, here are Week 5’s structural risks, worst first. None of these is a prediction that a team will play badly.
- Ownership concentration on a Thursday game. Dallas carries about 45 percent of consensus entries and kicks off tonight at 8:15 p.m. ET. In a first-kickoff pool, every pick locks before Friday’s injury reports, which is the real cost of a short-week game for survivor players.
- Quarterback news after your pool locks. Lamar Jackson has an ankle sprain and an outside chance to play Sunday night, and the Baltimore line has already flipped. Washington’s Jayden Daniels and Chicago’s Caleb Williams are also in question. Those numbers can move again after you submit.
- Skill-position injuries on popular favorites. Cincinnati’s receiver status will not settle until late in the week, with about a quarter of the field on the Bengals.
The Week 5 read
Dallas is the safest pick on a thin slate, and in most office pools it is the right one. The bigger the pool, the more the 45 percent ownership counts against it, and the more Jacksonville or Houston make sense. Whatever you choose, decide before tonight’s kickoff if your pool locks on Thursday.
