Week 8 NFL Survivor Recap (2026): Green Bay Beats Carolina on Thursday Night
Thursday held our avoid call on Carolina and Green Bay. Top pick Cincinnati, alternative Jacksonville and Dallas all play Sunday.

Week 8 opened with a favorite winning. Green Bay beat Carolina 27–19 at home on Thursday night, a game the market had at 62 percent for the Packers at our refresh on October 28 and survivor pools left almost entirely alone. By SurvivorGrid’s consensus board, under 3 percent of entries were on either side, so the field’s week starts Sunday, with Cincinnati expected to carry the largest share.
Thursday night
Green Bay beat Carolina 27–19 at Lambeau Field to open Week 8. The Packers were 62 percent at our refresh on October 28, a 3.5-point home favorite, and by our Tuesday picks article the line sat between -3.5 and -4.5, about -192 to -217. Carolina was 38 percent at our refresh. The favorite won, so this is not an upset.
Per ESPN’s play-by-play, Carolina led 3–0 on a Ryan Fitzgerald field goal and 10–6 early in the second quarter on a Chuba Hubbard touchdown run, after Green Bay’s first touchdown, a 12-yard Jordan Love pass to Tucker Kraft, was followed by a missed extra point. Josh Jacobs scored from a yard out to put Green Bay ahead 13–10, Love found Matthew Golden from 24 yards with 1:46 left in the half, and a 4-yard Love pass to Jacobs made it 27–10 midway through the third. Carolina answered with a 50-yard Fitzgerald field goal and a 26-yard Bryce Young touchdown pass to Jalen Coker with 5:37 left, and the two-point try failed. Neither team scored again.
Love finished 30 of 41 for 288 yards, three touchdowns and an interception; Christian Watson had eight catches for 113 yards, and ESPN reported he returned to the game after a trip to the hospital with a broken rib. Green Bay outgained Carolina 354 yards to 258 while turning the ball over three times to the Panthers’ two. Carolina was sacked six times; Green Bay was not sacked. The Packers converted 9 of 16 third downs to Carolina’s 5 of 18. Green Bay is 5-3 and Carolina is 3-4.
The survivor lens. This game was nearly empty. SurvivorGrid’s consensus board, which averages several public survivor pools, had Green Bay at 2.8 percent of Week 8 entries and Carolina at 0.1 when we checked it Friday morning. ESPN’s Week 8 survivor column, published Wednesday, did not break out either team; it had Cincinnati at 25 percent of ESPN Survivor entries, the Rams at 17, New England and Dallas at 16 each, Jacksonville at 14 and Washington at 1, with 2.3 percent of ESPN’s original entries alive after Week 7. Per Covers, 660 Circa Survivor entries were alive entering Week 8, and Circa’s contests page still showed 660 on Friday morning, consistent with no entry having been spent on Carolina, though we cannot confirm the page had refreshed after the game. We have seen no published Circa count for Green Bay.
How our picks did
So far there is only one thing to grade. Our Week 8 picks article put both Carolina and Green Bay on the avoid list and made the Thursday game the third item in its trap watch, calling it a game to watch rather than pick. Neither team was ours, so Thursday cost us nothing and proved nothing about the picks themselves.
The trap watch item had two parts. The first was timing: the 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff locked first-kickoff pools before the full week of injury reports. The second was Green Bay’s offensive line, with Sean Rhyan doubtful, Jacob Monk on injured reserve, and Aaron Banks and Travis Glover questionable, and Carolina’s line, which had lost Taylor Moton to injured reserve. Per ESPN’s box score, Green Bay did not allow a sack and Carolina gave up six. We report that as a result, not as a verdict on the line concern; one game is one data point.
Everything we actually recommended plays Sunday: Cincinnati at home against Tennessee as the top pick, Jacksonville at home against Indianapolis as the alternative, and Dallas at home against Arizona as the save-your-studs play.
What this week teaches
A Thursday favorite at 62 percent is a lock, not a bargain. Green Bay was priced well below the Sunday tier, and taking the Packers meant spending a team and freezing your entry before most of the week’s news was in. Our trap games guide treats information timing as a structural risk, and a first-kickoff lock is the plainest version of it.
An injury report is a reason to look, not a conclusion. Green Bay had four offensive linemen on its report and allowed no sacks. That does not argue against weighing line injuries; our offensive line guide treats them as a signal that shifts a price, not a prediction of a result. One clean night is one data point in a base rate, and the right response is to keep counting.
Nearly empty games tell you about the field, not the risk. With under 3 percent of consensus entries on either side, the result moved almost nobody. The weeks that reshape a pool are the ones where a large share sits on one team, which is why our expected value guide weighs ownership alongside the price. Sunday, with Cincinnati at 25 to 37 percent depending on the board, is that kind of week.
